Update from Ms. Richman
October 30, 2020

Dear First and Second Grade Families,

You may be aware that the FCPS School Board has approved the return of additional groups of students if health and safety metrics hold. The identified date for our Grades 1 and 2 students to return to in-person learning is the week of November 30th.  This date is subject to change.  To prepare for this transition we invite you to a meeting next Wednesday, November 4th at 7pm.  A link for the meeting will be sent next week.  Spanish translation will be provided.

At this meeting we will share information about the following topics:

  • What the hybrid in-person/virtual model will look like at Woodburn
  • How to request a change in preference for your child (virtual vs. in-person)
  • Health and Safety Practices
  • Next steps for families

As a reminder, the deadline to update your preference for in-person or virtual instruction for your child is November 6th.  If we do not hear from you we will honor the choice you made in the FCPS July survey to determine the setting for instruction. If you chose in-person instruction, we will assume your child(ren) will return to in-person instruction in accordance with the schedule above. If you chose all-virtual instruction we will assume you will continue in that format.

If your circumstances have changed, we will try to accommodate your request based on the availability of staff and space.  Should you want to change your preference please email Katy Richman at @email or call 703-641-8200.  The deadlines to submit a change in preference are outlined by grade level below.

During this transition we will strive to minimize impacts to student scheduling and teacher assignments, however some students may experience a change in schedule or class assignment as we work to accommodate everyone’s preferences.

Should you have questions before the meeting please feel free to email me at @email

Thank you for your tremendous support of our teachers and staff as we work to deliver online learning, and as we plan to pivot to in-school learning.  We look forward to meeting with you on Wednesday.
