Arts Integration
Our work with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra
Woodburn is proud to be a long-time partner of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (FSO). The FSO provides Woodburn students with a host of opportunities including an interactive concert event, FSO Link Up, where 3rd and 4th grade students go on a field trip to GMU’s Center for the Arts. Students move, sing, and dance from their seats in a concert as professional musicians perform on stage. Woodburn teachers collaborate with the FSO on an annual Arts Integration Showcase, where 4th grade students create artwork around a theme that is part of a musical repertoire that will be performed by the FSO in concert. Students have the opportunity to display their artwork along with other content created in the classroom which is displayed in the lobby of George Mason University Center for the Arts. Students and Families are invited to attend this concert for free. The Fairfax Symphony also often sends renowned musicians and conductors to work with students in a classroom setting. We greatly value our partnership with the FSO and the incredible opportunities they provide our school community.
